Met Monday -Thrifty Treasures

Anybody know where the weekend went?  Even though we gained an hour here in Iowa, I am still behind!!  We had a great Halloween, weather was perfect for my little ladybug and vampiress

The fabulous Susan at BNOTP is hosting her Met Monday where you can see some great decorating inspiration.

Below is a picture of my latest thrift store finds. Some in this post and others not quite finished!!
Loved the basket shape, not the color. Gotta love brass candle sticks. Now I am not knocking brass cuz back in ancient times of the 80s brass was hot!! I had it all over my bedroom at home. How I wanted a real brass headboard, funny how 20 years changes your wish list!!

I used the dome below for more Halloween decor and used the base for another project.

This headboard was a steal from Craigs list for 25 dollars. It is a king and I paid $25. The sagey color is really nice, but didnt work with what I needed it for.

Paint isnt quite dry in the pic, but isnt she lovely now? King headboard for $25, yeah.

Remember the pic from before, brass candlesticks, basket wrong color, various glass bowls? A little stain painted on the basket, good coat or coats of black spray paint and here we go my dining room table centerpiece in the works!! I think 2 of the bowls were candle containers and the largest size you see at every thrift store, but since they are all kind of unified they are all happy together!!

How about the dome pic from above and more brass candlesticks? I used the base from the dome and the brass candle stick now beautified for my Wallieworld punkin, as my daughter calls it.

Last but not least, another candlestick with a plate from Entertaining at Home housing my last Halloween decor from Windmill Lettering.
Make sure you check out their pricing for vinyl lettering, I ordered quite a few and it was really reasonable, great Xmas gifts everybody.

Some of these need further tweaking, which is part of the fun. Crazy week with the FLU unfortunately entering our house, but all in all a very productive week. Come back soon!!!

Knock off Mondays

Its So Very Cheri has a fun little get together called Knockoff Mondays. Its Tuesday, hope I can still play!

I love Ballard Designs. Notice the lovely little sideboard below, price you ask? 749.00 on sale. Gorgeous, do I have 749.00 on sale? NOPE.

Now this little baby needs to be refreshed. One of my next projects.

It came with a beautiful hutch on top of it, which I had been using in our dining room, which we are getting ready to dry wall. I had to take it apart. I needed something in the kitchen, so I moved it in there just to see if I liked it. I played around yesterday and I think it has a new home.

I am going to repaint her black and find new hardware. I forgot to mention, I scored this little lovely for 50 bucks instead of 749!! Can I get a wup, wup. It has been my favorite find EVA.

Met Monday

I have been a blog reader for quite a while, drooling over all the inspiration out there. Tired of being a chicken and decided to post some of my latest projects. If you havent stopped by this blog you are missing out. Every Monday she hosts Metamorphisis Monday where everybody can post their latest and greatest projects.

http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/2009/10/welcome-to-40th-metamorphosis-monday.html

I have had this tray for like 8 years, it was used in our bedroom on my dresser. It was a distressed white. It was always missing something. Of course I didnt take a before pic, new to this project blogging.

I sprayed it with chalkboard paint, over dust and all!!! It is very happy being a chalkboard. I also didnt have any chalk to prove it is either.

On my blog travels, all those painted pumpkings got me going. I bought two $1 pumpkins from Wally-World, used some copper craft paint and they have a whole new life.

Enjoy your blog travels today!

Halloween Decor

Here is my go at Halloween decorating. In the past my decorating usually involved a pumpkin and a ghost!! Trying to expand a little this year. I copied this broom idea off several different blogs. I didnt have much Halloween ribbon in my stash, waiting for it to go on sale after Halloween. I had an old broom, handy black spray paint, ribbon and here she is.

Eek, did you notice my little spook sneaking in the pic. Wished she would have left her clothes on!!
To my friend Kris, our Mason jar Pumpkins. My oldest cut the tissue paper, we used good ole Elmer's glue to put it on and they she used a Sharpie to draw on the face. Super great kids and mom project.

Check out the cool spider tea light holder, skulls, and Hurricane I scored at Big Lots.

Our Halloween tree my oldest (8) helped me make, she had a blast. I had more fun spray painting the urn and tree twig!!

My 1st DIY Day post

Kimba at A Soft Place To Land hosts DIY Day. This is my first participation and I am so excited.

We purchased my grandmother's house after she passed away, it is super special to me. It is an older house with great bones and unfortunately layers and layers of wallpaper!!

I took my trusty spray bottle with hot water and Downy and started in taking off the wallpaper. Isnt it pretty?

I should have taken out my daughter's bunkbed, too much work, sorry call me lazy!!

I am not a math person. So I wish I could give you the figures on how I worked out these stripes. I kinda fudged the whole thing. I went around with a paint stick and measured out the stripes and when it came to a corner, I just adjusted my stripes and you cant even tell!!
First I painted the whole room pink, marked off my stripes with chalk and then taped off the inside of the stripes to paint the white stripe. Let it dry. Re=tape and then added the purple. It took a good day to do, but I love how it turned out.
Thanks for stopping by!!

Blog Candy for a Cause

I just recently stumbled upon a blog and was touched by what she is trying to do. She is giving away a huge blog candy prize, while it is impressive, the best thing is she is trying to raise money for a friend with cancer who has no health insurance. Since I am truly blessed with a spouse who has health insurance and I am employed I decided to make a donation. Have a great day!!
